Case 03: Comparative study test.

The latest findings of XCTE enables us to compare historical data on fatigue resistance. In this case, historical data is taken from two fatigue tests which used the same coupon material and layup. The material used in both tests is IM7/8552. The layup is made from 20 plies pre-preg with stacking sequence [0,0_cut,90_cut,(0,90)_3,0]_s. The only difference between the coupons of both tests is the length of the specimen.

The coupons are clamped in the middle on a fixture, which is mounted on a shaker. The coupons were excited at their natural frequency. During excitation, the change in dynamic properties is measured.

Since the length of the coupons is different, the natural frequency of the shorter specimen is higher than the longer one. The processed data nicely shows the resilience of both tests is different because of the different excitation frequencies. Hence, the coupons shows more fatigue resistance at 250Hz.
